The light in Ilulissat does strange things to time. In late spring the sun barely sets, and after a few days on the ice you stop checking the clock and start reading the sky instead.
This trip was ten days guiding and shooting across the ice cap near Nuuk and Ilulissat — mornings spent scouting icebergs for the right light, afternoons with the group learning to read the ice, and long blue-hour sessions when the whole fjord turns the color of the inside of a glacier.
A few things I keep relearning out there: pack for four seasons in one day, never trust a calm fjord, and the best shots almost always come after you’ve already decided to pack up the camera.
